New Cameras Announced at CES 2023

This year at the 2023 CES show a lot of new cameras have been announced for vlogging, video production, live streaming, and online communications. After a huge boom in demand for online communications and incredible growth in video production, companies such as Sony, Nikon, Canon, and PTZOptics have released new cameras to meet the needs of these emerging markets. From small affordable vlogging cameras to more expensive cinema cameras, all of the latest technology could be found at CES this year.

New Cameras from SONY

Sony has built an incredible camera lineup for creators that starts with simple vlogging cameras and builds up to full-frame cinema cameras that are used in Hollywood studios. From an entry-level perspective, creators can stay with the Sony brand for years as their careers evolve from content creation to more professional use of cinematography cameras. 

New SONY Vlogging cameras at CES

The entry-level vlogging camera lineup starts with the Sony ZV1 which is now offered with two main lens options. The ZV1 includes a built-in optical zoom which is ideal for capturing closeup footage from a distance. The ZV1F is essentially the same camera with a built-in wide-angle 20mm lens. The Sony ZV1F appears to have allowed Sony to reduce the cost of their entry-level point and shoots cameras to just $499. The ZV1 series offers options for creators who want to get into video and photo production with a high-quality mirrorless camera that includes all the must-have options such as a swing-out LCD confidence monitor to use while filming in front of the camera. 

Sony Full Frame PTZ Camera FR7

One of the main new cameras of interest at the Sony booth this year was the FR7. The Sony FR7 is a full frame pan, tilt, and zoom camera. The Sony FR7 is the first of its kind in the PTZ camera market offering the highest-end productions a robotically controllable camera for unique perspectives during recordings. The Sony FR7 is the first “Netflix-approved” PTZ camera available today. The FR7 can be remotely controlled with the Sony pan tilt and zoom camera controllers. It also supports multiple cinema-quality lenses that can be used with the full-frame sensor. 

New Canon Cameras at CES

Canon EOS Webcam utility pro

Canon has really been listening to its customers in the live streaming space with the announcement of their new EOS webcam utility pro for their DSLR cameras. The new utility software will allow any Canon DSLR camera to be used as a USB-connected webcam with your computer. The new software is available for Mac and pc computers and must be installed to use your Canon camera as a webcam.

Canon PTZ Cameras at CES

Canon also showed off its new line of PTZ cameras at CES. The Canon CR-N300 is the entry-level pan, tilt and zoom camera from Canon which costs $2,399. Canon was showing off some computer vision tools which help in meeting environments to flatten whiteboard imagery to make it easier to see. The Canon CR-N500 is the 4K mode available in the PTZ line up which starts at $5,399. While the Canon PTZ Cameras are not cheap, they offer highly professional features such as XLR microphone connectivity and HDMI video outputs. The Canon CR-N500 also supports NDI video output for video connectivity over a network connection.

PTZOptics Move 4K Cameras at CES

PTZOptics has become really well known for live streaming and video production cameras, especially for users of OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Tricaster. PTZOptics is perhaps best known for its pan, tilt, and zoom cameras which offer plugins for PTZ control with live video production software such as OBS and vMix. This year at CES PTZOptics announced a new generation of PTZ cameras called the Move 4K. The Move 4K is a camera line that starts at just $1,799 and comes with options for 12X, 20X, and 30X lenses. PTZOptics was showing off the Move 4K with built-in auto-tracking capabilities that feature the ability to lock in on a specific speaker. The Move 4K cameras are able to perform auto-tracking capabilities by using an onboard computer vision processing chip that does not require additional software. The modern computer vision chip is also capable of facial recognition, people counting, and other custom computer vision solutions. At CES, PTZOptics announced a new computer vision tool chest that users can gain free access to at ptzoptics.com/computer-vision.

Along with the Move 4K cameras, PTZOptics also announced the Studio Pro. The Studio Pro is a content creator camera designed to provide high-quality video for online meetings and webinars. The Studio Pro won two awards for the best camera at the 2023 CES show. The camera features a 12X optical zoom lens which pairs with an included LED light panel to provide an all-in-one video camera solution for desktop or studio video content creation. The Studio Pro features HDMI, NDI, USB, and SRT video output solutions plus it has the ability to stream directly to YouTube or Facebook. 

New Nikon Cameras at CES

The Nikon Z30 was a main attraction for CES 2023 content creators this year, the Nikon Z30 competes directly with the Sony ZV vlogging camera line. The Z30 is compact and lightweight and it includes everything most creators need including a great microphone and windscreen. From an ease-of-use perspective, the Nikon Z30 checks all the boxes for modern content creators. The Creator Accessory kit provides a nice handle and control option for vlogging on the go giving creators the ability to quickly control their camera via a handheld tripod. For creators that want to use the Z30 for live streaming, the camera supports a USB connection for streaming up to 40K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps. 

New cameras at CES

It’s always exciting to see the biggest companies in the world releasing their latest camera technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). In 2023, creators, live streamers, video production pros, and cinematographers all got new toys to play with. It feels like big companies such as Sony, Canon, Nikon, and PTZOptics are really thinking about their customer’s needs and developing products that are now available, shipping, and ready to use. The Sony booth this year was particularly spectacular at our next blog post will feature the new Sony cameras in more detail. PTZOptics also made some big waves in the live streaming and video production industry this year at CES.
