Remote Production Software with PTZOptics Hive and Presonus Metro
Written by Paul Richards on June 2, 2024
In the world of remote production, having the right software tools can make all the difference. This blog post explores the powerful combination of PTZOptics Hive and Presonus Metro, two cutting-edge remote production software solutions that elevate your live streaming projects. We’ll dive into a real-world application where these tools were used to produce a live stream for a 4-person band, showcasing their seamless integration and remote capabilities.
Remote Production Software for Audio: Presonus Metro
For our live band performance, the audio setup was our first priority. We utilized the Presonus Studio Live III Audio Mixer, a rack mounted audio mixer with 16 inputs that costs just $899. This audio mixer supports, Presonus Metro for remote audio mixing. Presonus Metro allows producers to control audio levels, EQ settings, and other parameters from a distance, providing precise adjustments and ensuring optimal sound quality throughout the performance. This remote connectivity allows our team the flexibility and control that were previously only possible with local hardware operations. It was so great to have multiple team members able to adjust the audio mix, freeing up Mike our producer to focus on vMix our local live streaming software.
Remote Production Software for Video: PTZOptics Hive
On the video front, we employed PTZOptics Hive, a powerful tool designed for remote PTZ camera control and color correction. Hive supports NDI, enabling smooth and reliable IP video transmission. Each PTZOptics camera in our setup was powered by PoE and connected to our network with two streams of video being used (one NDI stream to vMix and a second RTSP stream to Hive). Hive’s remote capabilities allowed us to fine-tune camera positions and settings remotely without having to be on the same LAN as the studio network. This helped us aintain consistent visual quality and ensure that each shot was perfectly framed. This level of control is crucial for professional-grade live productions, making Hive an indispensable part of our remote production toolkit.
Software for Remote Audio & Video
Combining Presonus Metro and PTZOptics Hive created a cohesive remote production environment where audio and video elements complemented each other seamlessly. Here’s a closer look at our setup:
– Audio: Eight XLR inputs fed into the Presonus Studio Live III Audio Mixer, with remote adjustments made via Presonus Metro.
– Video: Four PTZOptics cameras connected via NDI, managed through vMix, with remote control and color correction handled by PTZOptics Hive.
This integrated approach allowed us to produce a high-quality live stream with professional audio and video, all managed remotely. The flexibility and control provided by these software solutions enable producers to operate efficiently and effectively, regardless of their physical location.
Conclusion
PTZOptics Hive and Presonus Metro are revolutionizing remote production by bridging the gap between hardware operations and software-based controls. Their remote connectivity capabilities empower producers to achieve professional-quality broadcasts with ease. Whether you’re streaming a live band performance or managing a complex multi-camera setup, these tools offer the precision and reliability needed for top-tier remote productions.
