OBS

Where Are OBS Recordings Saved?

In today’s video, you can learn where OBS video recordings are saved. This video then talks about recording formats and what to watch out for. One great tip is learning about recording in OBS while streaming. When you are live streaming you should be considering your available bandwidth. But, when you are recording, you do not need to worry about upload speeds. Therefore, you can usually record videos with OBS in a higher bitrate (video quality) than the bitrate you are streaming with.

To find out where OBS is saving your video recordings you can open up the settings area and navigate to the output tab. Here you will find a basic and advanced area for optimizing your recording settings. In the basic area, you can simply set your recordings to be the same bit-rate as your live stream. But, this may not be ideal especially if you are just making video recordings with OBS. Therefore, the advanced video recording area may be better suited for optimizing your recordings. Regardless of the video bit-rate you choose, you should always set up a recording path for your OBS videos so you know where to find them. This can be done by clicking the “browse” button next to recording path. By default, the OBS video recording path is usually the videos folder.

Now, you can set up where OBS will record and store your videos. Next, you can follow along with our video tutorial to learn about how to optimize your video recording settings. If you are live streaming and recording at the same time, you should test out various bit-rates and encoding options for your system. Some computers may not be able to handle recording and streaming at the same time. Others may have no problem. In the view drop-down menu inside of OBS, you can open up live stats for your production. Here  you can keep track of how your computer is handling recording and streaming at the same time. Consider reducing your project resolution and bitrate if your computer is dropping frames.

That’s all for now!
